| The project is a guesthouse studio in Santa Barbara that demonstrates sensitivity to its natural landscape, flexibility in the use of space, and preservation of our resources. The structure is designed on a sloping site without disturbing existing mature oak, redwood and pine trees. A new meandering stone path leads from the main residence across an ironwood bridge to a cantilevered veranda that reaches out to the landscape on three sides of the studio. Native and drought tolerant plants are used and sustainable building materials are specified throughout. The space is multi-functional with a fold-down bed when used as a guesthouse or without for a yoga studio.
The combination of sensitive siting, sustainable building materials, and a sense of open interior space provides a harmonious relationship between built and natural environments.
